Public Affairs events

Astronauts are among NASA's most visible faces to the public so they do plenty of public affairs events.

In a video prepared before the mission the crew talks about the benefits of their research. When the crew completed their training their families were invited to join them for a tour of Mission Control and to share a cake.

Author Philip Chien took the opportunity to tease Dave Brown about his circus 'career' at the preflight press conference on June 28, 2002. An additional press conference was held in January 2003, two weeks before launch. Author Philip Chien asked Ilan Ramon about his thoughts on September 11th.
